Rain may cause some discomforts.....
October is well into the spring season with some very unusual severe storms all around us at the moment. The amount of rain has been a God-sent to bring some relieve to our extreme dry spell around the state.
Along with the wonderful rain, filling our tanks, greening the environment and feeding the wildlife, it also brings along with it, according to Chinese medicine, a harmful condition called excessive dampness.
Just like the environment receiving huge amounts of rain, our internal body also feels the effects of this excess amount of moisture, bringing forth uncomfortable conditions, affecting some of us. These conditions may include feelings of bloating, indigestion, swellings in the joints, acerbating any arthritic conditions or general feelings of lethargy, tiredness and feeling heavy like dragging yourself around. All these symptoms may indicate you have this excessive dampness in the body.
If you do experience any of these symptoms presently, you may wish to try any of these tips to ‘dry’ up the excessive dampness in the body to relieve your symptoms.
Foods that will help are celery, pumpkin, ginger, corn, chamomile tea, Pau D’arco tea, lettuce, mung beans and its sprouts, amaranth or any bitter foods such as the most bitter of vegetable is the bitter melon. Bitter melon clears up the damp condition quickly, but maybe hard to find. It’s best to blend a small piece of bitter melon with a few drops of lemon juice, a sliver of turmeric plus a small amount of water, then drink it if you dare! Try any of these foods or teas, eat raw celery if possible of juice it rather than cooking them.
If you do not experience any symptoms of dampness, then just enjoy the spring weather with the rain!
